Instead of bringing in the New Year with a post on all of my goals (as we’d be here for days haha), I thought i’d start by focussing upon just, for now. Having a cleaner ‘closet’ space (or wardrobe as us Brits may say) is something I aim for all year round. But…it isn’t quite so easy when it’s been so cluttered for so long. With a very limited amount of time to myself once I get in from work, one of my focusses is to gut my wardrobe, once I have a couple of days off and maintain it, little by little. I don’t see the point of pressurising myself with time limits at the moment, as I’ve learn’t i’m quite hard on myself if I don’t achieve it. So, I’m taking things in my stride and starting with a little inspiration from Pinterest.
From finding the most minimalist of capsule wardrobes, to the most stunning of displays online, I want to aim for something in between – starting with a clear out! I found over time, my wardrobe has become filled with a mixture of my ‘every season essentials’ (although I don’t exactly class my ultra sequin/sparkly dresses as an essential, but you know, we all like to have a little something pretty in there for those odd nights out on the dance floor ;). As a result I decided it was time! Time to buy myself an addition to my little wooden mirrored wardrobe…an ottoman. Yes, a little ottoman that sits perfectly at the end of my bed. I’ve already filled this with my actual essentials. You know, the real practical stuff, like wooly jumpers, comfy pjs and hoodies. I bought mine from Dunhelm for under £20! With a white leather like finish and a fold away format, I’d say i’d picked myself up a bargain.
With my new find, i’ve separated a lot of the bulkier items into it, by folding them into category clothing sections. Plus, this now frees up some space for me to really begin on my actual wardrobe. I can be a little sentimental when it comes to my clothes, so I’m hoping that with a little inspiration from some of my favourite ‘clean closet’ pics, and some tough love clothing tips from the likes of Vivianna & her recommendation – Jess Lively, that i’ll be on track and focussed for the clear out in a week or so. I think the aim is to really utilise the items I want to keep and put away any unneeded seasonal stuff! So, if you’re like me at the moment and would love to gaze upon the most beautiful of wardrobe spaces, then take a look at some of my faves shown below. (Oh and i’ve tried not to include mansion sized walk in wardrobe rooms, as right now, that’s not as realistic as I would perhaps like ;).
I’d love to know in the comments if you have any more tips before I begin. x
